Cruise terminal locations
Alesund spreads across several small islands connected by bridges and tunnels, with cruise berths typically close to the compact city centre. Large ships dock at harbour facilities within walking distance of Brosundet, the Art Nouveau district, and excursion meeting points.
Confirm your exact berth on the ship's app the night before arrival. Berth assignments can change when several vessels share the port on the same day.
Walking distances from the pier
- Brosundet harbourfront: often 5–10 minutes on foot
- Art Nouveau town centre: typically 5–15 minutes from main cruise berths
- Byparken and Mount Aksla steps: about 10–15 minutes to the stairway base
- Tourist information: in the compact centre, walkable from most piers
- Atlantic Ocean Park (Tueneset): 3 km west — 10–15 minutes by road, not walkable on a short port call
Mount Aksla access
The iconic viewpoint at Fjellstua sits atop Mount Aksla. You can climb 418 steps from Byparken town park or take a taxi or tour coach to the summit. Many shore excursions include Aksla as part of a highlights tour. Allow 45–60 minutes for the step climb plus time at the viewpoint.
Tourist information and facilities
Visitor services, ATMs, pharmacies, and cafés cluster around the town centre and Brosundet. Restrooms and shelter are available in shopping areas and near the harbour. Most excursion operators meet guests at signed locations near Brosundet or cruise berths — check your voucher for the exact meeting point.
Local transport
Alesund's centre is compact and walkable. Local buses serve Tueneset (Atlantic Ocean Park) and outlying areas. Taxis are available near cruise berths on arrival days. Coach tours to Alnes Lighthouse and fjord-island routes depart from designated pickup points — confirm times on your voucher.
Currency and payments
Norway uses Norwegian kroner (NOK). Contactless cards are accepted almost everywhere, including cafés and souvenir shops. Some smaller stalls may prefer cash — withdraw kroner from ATMs in the town centre if needed.
Weather on cruise days
Coastal Alesund can be mild in summer but changeable year-round. Pack a light rain layer and windproof jacket — Mount Aksla and Alnes Lighthouse are exposed to Atlantic weather. Clear days reward early disembarkation with the best viewpoint photography.
